Big points for the Belgians during European Youth Championships Slovakia!
Last weekend the last match of the preliminary rounds for the European Youth Championship took place in Slovakia. Unfortunately, many drivers had unsubscribed knowing whether they were already qualified or not. For example, we saw Jago Geerts and Tallon Verhelst at work in Kester and Jorge Prado Garcia was a guest driving the X-fighters in Madrid. The Belgians who were there raised our national flag with pride and managed to fend off well. So names both Wesly Smolders as a Liam Evert big points to take home.

For the first time this year, a Belgian was present in the 65cc class. None other than Liam Everts, son of, took part in his very first competition at international level. And Liam did well, despite his young age. He managed to achieve a 16th and 17th place and thus a 16th place in the daily rankings. This ranking was once not won by Rasmus Pedersen, the Dane was absent and Noel Nilsson (Sweden) took full advantage of this. He won with 47 points, enough for the day's victory for Ben Hess and Max Lovgren.

There was no drumming this time in the 85cc class. Unfortunately, only 13 riders were at the start, but the quality still counted with names like Rick Elzinga and Raivo Dankers. Compatriot here at the start is Wesly Smolders, he managed a ninth and eleventh place in a very strange race. The second series was restarted due to a real thunderstorm. Taylor Hammal from the UK won the day's classification ahead of Petr Polak and Mikkel Larsen.
We now have two weeks to wait for the final in Finland. Then we see how the only qualified compatriot Jago Geerts can compete with the best motocross riders from Europe on the rather sandy Hyvinkaa track.
Wesly Smolders: “The circuits are always a shock, the jumps are much bigger than the ones you find in Belgium. Because I focus on timing the jumps correctly, I sometimes forget my cornering. Still, I am very happy that I participate in such competitions. There was a certain jump that I didn't really dare, but Raivo Dankers took me in tow and towards the end of the weekend I jumped it perfectly every time. Even when it started to storm and the circuit became wet, I continued to jump in a controlled manner. The fact that I continue to learn like this is a victory in itself for me and I am very happy with that.”
