DIGA Racing Race Report: EMX250cc, Hyvinkää, Finland
The sixth round of the European Championship is over. After the absolutely unlucky weekend in Uddevalla, the sand course of Hyvinkää in Finland gave the team the long-awaited good result in the EMX250cc class. Jaap Corneth is also really looking forward to riding this sand circuit but had to watch on the sidelines due to injury. Santtu Tiainen was the only pilot at the start to defend the colors of the DIGA Racing team. He immediately started his weekend with a direct qualification and a thirteenth starting place.
In the first series Santtu made a good start and managed to overtake 7 pilots to finish 8th. In the second series he started just outside the top ten, he defended his position, made up a few positions but did not want to take big risks to secure that top 10 ranking. A good weekend and a step in the right direction for Santtu and the team.
Santtu Tiainen: “The weekend was a lot better than the previous one. I'm still struggling a bit with the switch to the 250 and the different way of riding, but this result is impressive! I'm already looking forward to riding in Lommel. I am very happy with this first good result and am very grateful for the efforts made by the team. The team really works hard for me and it was a special day with Marc's 40th birthday, I'm glad I contributed a little to the joy in my way! Now it's up to me to keep training and work hard so that I can get on the podium in Lommel!”
Dirk Saelen, Team manager:“We are of course very satisfied with the weekend, Santtu's streak of bad luck has finally come to an end. He has finally been able to show that he belongs in this championship and is not inferior to the other top ten pilots. The weekend started well with a direct qualification, an immediate boost in confidence. The course was very demanding and treacherous, as you can see in the list of falls and injuries. Santtu managed to start in the top 20 in every series and climbed into the top ten each time without taking excessive risks. Eighth in the daily rankings is certainly a step in the right direction. I would like to once again thank the entire team for the Scandinavian trip because two weeks of non-stop travel is no joke and everything went smoothly and we can only be proud of that. Thomas Sileika has now resumed motorcycle training to be fit at the start in the Czech Republic. Jaap Corneth was unable to ride this weekend because the stitches in his foot had not yet closed sufficiently. He can normally resume motorcycle training tomorrow. We are already looking forward to the next race in two weeks on the beautiful circuit of the Czech Loket.”
