Optimizing the FMB-BMB youth competition
It is clear that we still have talent in Belgium. With the victory of Brent Vandoninck in the European Championships250, the ONK85 title win of Jago Geerts and the brilliant season of Cyril Genot in the ONK & European Championships, while he is one year and a half younger as a dominator in the 125cc's Davy Pootjes.
But what could we do to offer these boys a high level of competition in their own country? Now the situation is sad with the youth class in the FMB-BMB. With often only a half-full starting gate during these series, we cannot speak of a high flyer.
How can the championship get a boost? Just our ideas and associated vision.
Split the Belgian National 85cc competitions and the Belgian Masters of Motocross competitions. This means that these become two separate championships. Maintain the 'own license holders first' rule during the Belgian National 85cc championship. The second championship, the so-called 'Belgian Masters of Motocross 85cc' championship, will then be opened to all nationalities and all licenses. This is based on the example of the ONK. The ONK where the 85cc class is crewed by Belgians, Dutch, French, Danes, Germans, Spaniards, etc. Something in which this new BMMX 85cc championship could certainly succeed with the attraction of courses such as Kester, Orp-le-Grand and Mont-Saint-Guibert. The motocross talents from other countries could then help with the level transfer. Because as you know, you only get better by competing against the better ones.
One 125cc class in which all 125cc machines must unite. This year is the first year that the FMB-BMB provides a true 125cc championship. A championship that is, however, somewhat decapitated by the fact that strong pilots such as Nolan Cordens, Thomas van Erum and Jasper van der Mieren are not in the 125cc/Beloften class but in the National class. In addition, it is once again a shame that the rule 'own licensees first' is the rule. For example, boys registered in the promises class not only miss the opportunity to strengthen themselves by competing with the stronger Belgian 125cc pilots, but also with international 125cc pilots. Let us just call Bas Vaessen or Max Engelen as an example.
In short, everything is there to offer our youth a high-quality competition closer to home. But some actions must be taken. Actions that the motocross world can do itself, for once the excuse of training areas cannot be used.
Now the final point: What do you think of all this?! Be sure to let me know below!
