Just short of a podium for Robin Bakens in Mons!
It was last weekend Robin Bakens at the start of the first match of the Belgian Masters of Motocross. The Yamaha pilot was at the start at the INTERS MX2 class and competed against the best MX2 riders in Belgium.
The timed training did not go very smoothly for Robin, he himself has already indicated that he is not a man for one fast lap. He couldn't really start and was allowed to find a spot behind the starting gate in seventh place.
The first series was very unfortunate, the Waaslander was in good shape at the start, but bad luck soon struck. After a top-5 start, someone fell right in front of the wheels of number 94. Robin only arrived at 11th.e from the Bois Brûlé. After being able to move up for a short time, bad luck struck again. Once again, twice in fact, someone fell in front of Robin's wheels and a catch-up race started from 31st place. Lap after lap the 19 rodee year-old EK250cc pilot moved to the front out of sheer frustration. He battled himself to ninth place and kept his podium chances in the final rankings intact.
“I'm going home, having bad luck is one thing, but this beats everything.” Robin Bakens said between series. “Every time I came close to someone and wanted to perform a passing maneuver, that person fell right in front of me. In the woods you can't go anywhere and I was stuck every time. But soon there will be series two, everyone will be back on the same page and we will all start from scratch.”
With that attitude, Bakens flew into the second series. The start was not great, but the comeback was even more impressive. Round after round he overtakes the opposition and gets closer to the top 3. With two laps to go he also overtook Dutchman Mark Boot and settled for third place. With a ninth and third place, Robin just missed the podium and kept himself in the race for the championship.
Robin Bakens could not achieve all this without the following sponsors: Steven Braems drilling and concrete works, Arai Helmets, Leatt protectives, EKS Brand Goggles, Gaerne Boots, BEST products, Putoline motorcycle oils, Yamaha Belgium, Van Hasselt exhausts, TMV, Twin Air , No Limit Graphics, Fietswereld Bijvank, Renthal, Muc-Off, Acerbis, Bakens Yamaha, Pirelli, Spirit suspension.
