Successful season debut for the Kemea Yamaha Racing team
Last weekend the Kemea drivers rode their first race of this season. After the cancellation of Valence, Petar and Luke headed to Montevarchi to ride the last test for the Italian championship. Cyril stayed in Belgium and took part in the opening cross in Lommel with the promises.
In the MX2 round in Montevarchi Luke got off to a good start. He crossed the finish line in third place after Arnaud Tonus and Tim Gasjer. Luke fell back to fifth place after a few laps but was able to hold on until the end.
Petar finished ninth after the first lap. He had some difficulty getting into the right rhythm, but then came back strong lap after lap. He eventually finished in sixth place on Styke's wheel.
In the super final, where the MX1 and MX2 classes ride together, Petar and Luke crossed the finish line in 12th and 18th respectively after the first lap. Petar rode a strong race and finished 10th. He thus became the third MX2 rider after Ferrandis and Lupino. Luke had a hard time in this super final and finished 20th.
In Lommel, Cyril Genot did not tolerate any resistance on the tough circuit. He convincingly won both heats after leading from start to finish. He shows that he has had a good winter and is ready for the European Championships.
Next week Petar will travel to Hawkstone Park for a final dress rehearsal before traveling to the first GP in Qatar. Luke will travel south this week for more testing.
Marnicq Bervoets: , It's started! Petar rode very well in Montevarchi. In the first moto he managed to bounce back very well after a bad moto, and in the super final he also rode a very good race among the MX2 top riders who were present there. Luke had a very good start in the first moto but still had to lose the pace of the leaders. He also did not find his way in the super final, but it was only his first match on European soil. He had some stress and also some problems with the adjustment. We haven't been able to test much with the new parts yet, so this was more of a test than a real competition for us. We now know what we still need to work on and we will get to work straight away.'
Petar Petrov: ‚ This was a decent start to the season. In the first series I didn't have a good start... Not really bad according to what I'm used to, but not what I want. I was a bit nervous and it took a while to get going. In the super final I had a good start and I was able to compete the entire race with Lupino, Charlier and at the end Ferrandis. The speed and physicality are there and I am happy about that.'
Luke Styke: ' This match was a good test to see where we have come. I actually expected a little more from it. Initially I had a good feeling on the track, but as it became more difficult I no longer felt comfortable on the bike. I didn't take any risks and tried to gain as much rhythm as possible. This week we are heading south with the team for testing. Hopefully we can make some adjustments and then we will be ready for Qatar.
Cyril Genot: ‚ I'm super happy about these competitions. It just took some getting used to because I had some problems with the bike during training and had to ride a new one for the races. But all in all the riding went very well so the season has started well.'
