Interview: BMMX promoter Edmond Detry
It remained ominously quiet around the Belgian Masters of Motocross this winter. And when news did come out, it was not exactly encouraging. For example, in December the championship lost Radson as title sponsor of the MX1 class. In January it was announced that Monster Energy, the title sponsor of the MX2 class, was also withdrawing. Yet BMMX promoter Edmond Detry is not giving up.
“It's not easy,” says Detry when we call him. “The loss of Radson and Monster Energy as title sponsors was of course hard. At the same time, this also creates other opportunities. Both sponsors had to drop out because they were directed from above – European level – to save on marketing. They did not drop out because they were dissatisfied with the championship or the return they achieved.”
