Green Flag #3, February 2, 14
The European MX season officially started this weekend with the first race of the Italian championship. It is a first test of strength between some top players where some immediately show that they are ready for it, but where others do not show their cards. In addition to the Italian championship, a number of competitions took place, below you can view all the results.
The Italian championship in 2014 has started. In this first match it was like eating sand, Lommel style. In Riola Sardo, no fewer than 1 factory riders came to the start in the MX6 and in the MX2 class there were as many as 6 factory bikes at the start. Names like Cairoli, Bobryshev, Rattray, Nagl, Tonus, Tixier, Febvre... they were all at the meeting. There were also three Belgians at the start, Yamaha factory pilots Jeremy Van Horebeek, Kevin Fors en Robin Bakens. This race can therefore safely be regarded as the opening race for the International Motocross Championship.
Then the matches themselves. In the MX1 class was it Cairoli who clearly won the first heat, with a whopping 37 seconds lead over Evgeny Bobryshev and Jeremy Van Horebeek. Phillipaerts, Rattray, Waters and Nagl remained on the same lap as the flying Italian.
In MX2 class it was a true thriller. Arnaud Tonus took the victory with less than one second ahead of Christophe Charlier, a surprising third is Pauls Jonass. The reigning 125cc world and European champion preceded Jordi Tixier and Ivo Monticelli to complete the top 5. Kevin Fors finished 8e, Lars Van Berkel 9e and Robin Bakens 18e.
Finally one more super final. It was also here Antonio Cairolli supreme, Van Horebeek claimed second place and Bobryshev third. Tonus was the best MX2 rider on a 6e place. Lars Van Berkel finished 15e, Kevin Fors finished 18e and Robin Bakens dropped out with a finger injury. Next week these riders will be at the start in Noto.
