Joël Smets about the 'Red Knights' and the MXoN
Barely 10 days separate us from the clash of the year, the Motocross of the Nations in Teutschenthal on September 29! Team manager Joël Smets and his crew, Clément Desalle, Ken De Dycker and Jeremy Van Horebeek, go to battle with healthy ambitions. Explanation from the national coach himself…
team manager Joel Smets: “I'm already starting to get used to our new name “Red Knights” and the more I hear it, the more I have the feeling that it has power. This can also be said of our drivers. Last Sunday during the Belgian Masters of Motocross in Mont-Saint-Guibert we could already see that Jerre can still handle a 250 quite well. There was some uncertainty about Ken's preparedness, but yesterday I accompanied him on the motorcycle training and it certainly looked good. Partly thanks to an intensive treatment and exercise program that our Team Belgium physiotherapist, Jef Kissembeek, has drawn up, I expect that Ken will grow back to his best level in the coming days.
Jeremy also rode his laps yesterday with motivation 🙂 Clément chose to leave his bike aside this week in order to maximize his appetite for riding. He will be back again on Saturday for the next group training. The only bitter feeling I struggle with is that we are only allowed to take 3 instead of 4 riders... You have of course also noticed that Kevin Strijbos has been performing at top level in recent weeks, but we (the Marnicq, Stefan and myself selection committee) have trust has been given to Ken and I am convinced that he will do his utmost not to betray that trust!”
