Australia on pole position in Teutschenthal, Belgium third
In Teutschenthal, Germany, the Red Knights finished third during the qualifications for the Motocross of Nations. Today a qualifying round was held in the three classes, of which the best two results count for tomorrow's starting order. Pole position goes to Australia.
In the MX1 class, Ken de Dycker (KTM) finished fifth. He got off to a good start but cut his teeth in the opening laps against Valentin Guillod, who surprisingly finished third. De Dycker lost his rhythm a bit and once he ended up in third place, he had to let Tommy Searle (Kawasaki) and Antonio Cairoli (KTM) go in the final phase. The victory in this moto went to Australian Brett Metcalfe (Kawasaki) ahead of Ryan Dungey (KTM)
In the MX2 class, Ken Roczen (KTM) led from start to finish. The former world champion and home rider was praised by the fans and won ahead of Australian Dean Ferris (Yamaha) and our compatriot Jeremy van Horebeek (Kawasaki). Van Horebeek rode a strong race and was able to stay ahead of the American champion Eli Tomac (Honda).
In the Open class we saw a demonstration by our compatriot Clement Desalle (Suzuki). The vice world champion in the MX1 class led from start to finish and easily won the race. At the finish he had a wide lead over the American Justin Barcia (Honda) and the Estonian Tanel Leok (TM)
If we add up the best results from all countries, Australia is at the top with 3 points. Belgium and the US both have 4 points, but because the Americans' worst result is better than that of the Belgians, America can choose a second place at the starting gate tomorrow.
