Ferris and Cairoli win…Herlings out…
Dean Ferris (MX2) and Antonio Cairoli (MX1) have won the Qualifying Races for the Belgian Grand Prix in Bastogne. But the news of the day did come from Jeffrey Herlings' camp. The newly crowned MX2 World Champion was in second place in his Qualifying Race when he attacked leader Dean Ferris. Things went wrong for Herlings at the end of the eighth lap when he tried to attack Ferris's leading position. Herlings crashed and injured his shoulder and the race was immediately over for our northern neighbor. Herlings immediately drove towards the riders' park and they immediately saw that it was serious...
The last messages we received about Jeffrey Herlings were that the shoulder was not broken and that an MRI scan must be done to detect possible damage to the shoulder. Herlings would most likely not appear at the start tomorrow to give his shoulder the necessary rest.
Our Belgians in the Qualifying Races…
In the MX1 class we had four Belgians in the top ten. Clement Desalle finished second behind Cairoli, Van Horebeek and De Dijcker occupied fourth and fifth place. A little further on we got Kevin Strijbos in ninth place. Nick Triest rode to 16th place and the other compatriots Steve Seronval and Arnaud Wauters finished 21st and 22nd. Joel Roelants had to leave after one lap.
In MX2 we had Kevin Fors as our best compatriot in 21st place and Damon Graulus came in 26th. Our third compatriot Brent Van Doninck dropped out on the very first lap with bad luck.
