Everts & Friends 2013
Everts & Friends is an event that I look forward to every year, personally but also as a writer. It is an event where show and sport go hand in hand and for a good cause.
The sporty
One of the sporting highlights of each edition is always the Future Stars who compete against the Grand Prix stars who then fold themselves onto an 85cc machine for the occasion. For example, in the first series of the FS we had a Roan van den Moosdijk who bent over backwards to stay ahead of a chasing Jeffrey Herlings. And sure enough, Roan beat Jeffrey in a straight-ahead duel and not many have succeeded this year, most of them need a falling JH84.
Another one of the sporting highlights is the wrongway pit stop race in which they race around the course in reverse and replace the rear wheel in the meantime. The ladies are exempt from having to change the wheel.
Joel Roelants crowned himself the strongest ahead of Kevin Strijbos, who claimed the overall victory, and Kimberley Braam, who stayed ahead of all the other men thanks to a strong pace and no substitutions! Johan Boonen and Stefan Everts completed the top five.
The show
But of course there was more than competition, there was the beautiful moped cross in which there were of course people who went for the victories, Patrick Heinen won, but there were also those who provided the show value by driving around half naked or by riding a moped. tandem or moped sidecar touring.
In addition, Everts could have secured Kimi Räikkönen, who rode well in the Cyclo MX Team race. The IceMan paired with Yannick Peeters finished in fifth place, Gautier Paulin and Niels Albert won the race ahead of former motocross rider Jan Denuwelaere and Antonio Cairoli!
Perhaps we enjoyed the vintage cars the most, which is a beautiful show. Of course we participate in this competition, but seeing these old machines in action is the best show a motocross enthusiast can dream of!
In short, Everts & Friends was once again a wonderful spectacle, on to 2014?! This year Stefan Everts snared Kimi Räikkönen, can we order Greg Albertyn, JM Bayle or Ricky Carmichael for next year?! 😉
