ONK MX1 Markelo: Bobryshev win!
The fifth round of the Open Dutch MX1 Championship was won by Evgeny Bobryshev. The 25-year-old Russian won (2-1) in Markelo ahead of Shaun Simpson (3-2) and Marc De Reuver (4-4). The audience also got to see a very combative Joël Roelants. The Yamaha Factory Rider won the first race well, but in the second moto he lost out hard in a duel with Bobryshev. Unfortunately, Joël was unable to continue due to the damage to his motorcycle and had to give up.
The excellent turnout of spectators was rewarded with a lot of spectacle. After Boby took the lead in the first moto, the battle was mainly behind him for third place between Mike Kras, Agust Justs and Shaun Simpson. Roelants was in second place and was therefore able to take perfect advantage when leader Bobryshev made a mistake. With Roelants, Bobryshev and Simpson in the top 3, the value ratios were respected. Dereuver also made a positive impression, after a start outside the top ten, Calimero routinely came to the front to finish fourth.
Shorter laps and a track in the other direction provided excitement at De Herikerberg all day long. In the second moto Eric Leijtens took the holeshot ahead of De Reuver, Bobryshev, Simpson, Justs, Marko Kovalainen and Bengtsson. However, Simpson emerges from the woods as the first leader. After a bad start, Roelants disbanded. Starting in 15th place, he takes the lead ahead of Simpson after 3 laps. Bobryshev passes the Scottish TM driver and starts the attack on 'JR'. The audience gets to see a fantastic duel between the two fighting cocks, but Roelants' fall in front of the VIP tent takes the tension out of the race. Exit Roelants so that Simpson and Bengtsson finish second and third after Honda factory rider Evgeny Bobryshev. After long months of injuries, Herjan Brakke deservedly scores his second top five position. There is little to do on the Belgian side other than trendsetter Roelants. The young Donny Schmidt manages to score a point in series two.
The ONK final will be held in Lichtenvoorde on September 22, Bobryshev is 26 points ahead of Bengtsson and Simpson follows 39 from the leader.
