Herlings also remains on course after GP in Maggiora…
Jeffrey Herlings remains on course after the match in Maggiora. With two series victories, the Dutchman also took his ninth Grand Prix victory of the season. However, the revelation of this Grand Prix was the Russian Alexander Tonkov. With two holeshots and competing for the top spots, Tonkov was the man of the weekend after Herlings. Only a fall before the finish in the first series probably kept the Russian from a certain podium place.
Jeffrey Herlings Part I & Tonkov surprises…
It was Alexander Tonkov who took the holeshot in this opening heat ahead of Nicholls and Ferris. Just after the first corner we immediately had crashes for our compatriots Fors and Van Doninck. Spaniard José Butron soon took over the lead from Tonkov. Herlings followed well in third and thought it was enough just before the halfway point and passed Tonkov and Butron. Once Herlings was in the lead, he also quietly drove away from his competitors. Tonkov took second place from Butron for a while, but before the start of the last two laps Butron put this right again and came second again. Jeffrey Herlings rode unthreatened to victory in this opening heat ahead of José Butron who finished second. The Russian Tonkov, who was in a duel with Nicholls, would normally finish third, but crashed spectacularly just before the finish and would ultimately only be classified 22nd.
Kevin Fors came in at 24th place and Brent Van Doninck finished 32nd.

Jeffrey Herlings Part II & Tonkov confirmed…
The holeshot was again for the Russian Alexander Tonkov ahead of Lupino, Herlings and Butron. Jeffrey Herlings immediately moved up to second place and immediately put Tonkov under pressure. In lap three Herlings took over the lead from Tonkov. In third place we had home driver Alessandro Lupino with Butron and Tixier on his wheel. During the first half of the match, Tonkov continues to spin nicely in Herlings' wheel. But with ten minutes to go, Herlings starts to widen the gap somewhat. Tonkov has to slow down a bit and gets Lupino and Tixier close to him. With three laps to go, Lupino ends up on Tonkov's wheel. Before the start of the last two laps, Lupino moves into second place and many Italian fans immediately go completely crazy. Jeffrey Herlings drives without any problems to his second series victory and takes victory in the Italian Grand Prix. Our compatriots Fors (27) and Van Doninck (30) missed the World Cup points.
