Paulin breaks Cairoli's winning streak
Gautier Paulin has managed to break Cairoli's winning streak. In Sevlievo, where Paulin also won last year, Paulin managed to break Cairoli's dominance with a series victory and a second place. He won the GP ahead of Cairoli, who won the second heat but only finished fourth in the first heat. Clement Desalle finished third after a nice duel with Kevin Strijbos in both heats.
In the first moto Paulin immediately took the lead and was able to ride to victory unthreatened. Kevin Strijbos was able to follow Paulin for a while, but with Desalle in his wheel he lost the connection. After several frantic attempts by Desalle to pass Strijbos, Kevin managed to finish second ahead of Desalle and Cairoli. Tony had started around seventh place but couldn't seem to get into his rhythm. He came back to fourth place and didn't lose too many points. Jeremy van Horebeek finished nicely in 7th place, while Keeno did not really find his feet and only finished ninth. Joel Roelants finished eleventh.
In the second moto the holeshot again for Paulin just ahead of Cairoli. Paulin could not keep the Italian behind him for long and Cairoli took the lead. The Frenchman tried to hold on, but Paulin was unable to go any further than holding on. Desalle and Strijbos had again started wheel in wheel and this time it was Desalle who came out on top and finished third ahead of Strijbos. Ken de Dycker again had a bad start, but this time he came back to fifth place, just ahead of Jeremy van Horebeek, who rode his best race of the season in Bulgaria. Roelants does not seem to have completely recovered from his injury and finished 13th.
Cairoli remains the leader in the World Cup standings with 235 points. With his victory, Paulin jumps from fourth to second place with 195 points. Desalle remains third with 189 points and Ken de Dycker drops from second to fourth place with 183 points. Kevin Strijbos is fifth with 160 points. Jeremy van Horebeek is 13th with 78 points and is followed by Joel Roelants in fourteenth place with 76 points.
