Conrad Mewse dominates the European Championships in Heerde
Last weekend there was two days of cross-country racing in the woods of Heerde. The European Championships 65 and 85cc were guests there for their first competition of the season. Just like last year, Europe has been split into 4 parts, North-East, North-West, South-East, South-West. Belgium falls under the North-West region, just like the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Great Britain, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Norway and Sweden. There are a total of six matches in this European Championship. Five of these are preliminary rounds, with which you can qualify for the final during the British GP. The top 10 per class in each region may start during the GP.
In the 65cc class it was Anton Nagy from Sweden who won the first series. He was about 20 seconds ahead of Finn Emil Weckman and home rider Raivo Dankers. However, Dankers had recorded the fastest time of the race.
In the second series it was Dankers who immediately took the lead. He seemed to dominate from start to finish, until a crash. This allowed Anton Nagy to grab on and put pressure. Yet the young Dutchman did not succumb to the pressure and won this second series in a beautiful way.
In the daily rankings it is Anton Nagy who wins ahead of Raivo Dankers and Emil Weckman.
In the 85cc class it was Conrad Mewse day. The Briton, who has been competing in ONKs for quite some time now and has challenged Pootjes several times, convincingly won both series. Jorge Prado Garcia, the 65 2011cc world champion, still needs training in the sand. Yet he finished second in both series. The Dane Glen Meier finished third in the daily rankings.
Many Belgians were also at the start in the 85cc class. Cyril Genot, for example, finished fourth. Jago Geerts finished ninth in the general classification. In the second series he even achieved a good fifth place. Jarni Kooij finished twelfth on his Kawasaki. Michael Buitendijk and Bo De Clercq did not score. Yet they are without a doubt one more experience richer.
Finally, the NK 125cc also took place in Heerde. Here Freek Van der Vlist won ahead of Niels Van Boxtel after a few exchanges of penny. Ian Van Der Kolk was third on the podium.
