Tony Cairoli dominates in Thailand
In the sweltering Si Racha, Antonio Cairoli (Red Bull-KTM) won the second GP of the season. The reigning MX1 world champion won both the MX1 round and the super final and is ahead of Frenchman Gautier Paulin (Kawasaki Racing Team) and Clément Desalle in the final standings. Ken de Dycker (Red Bull-KTM) finished second in the opening series, but was unable to perform in the second series, meaning he had to settle for fifth place in the final standings. MX1 rookie Joël Roelants (10-7) gained confidence with a seventh place in the GP and Kevin Strijbos (Suzuki) finished on equal points with Roelants in ninth.
With his double victory, Cairoli takes 10 points back from Desalle and now also leads the standings. Clément follows Thailand at 8 points behind the reigning world champion in the World Cup standings, Paulin follows in third at 18 points, De Dycker is fourth at 25 points, Searle is at 5de on 31 points
In the first heat, Russian Evgeny Bobryshev took the fastest start ahead of Antonio Cairoli, Ken de Dycker and Clement Desalle. Keeno immediately found a good rhythm and moved into the lead after a few laps, with his teammate Cairoli and Desalle in his wake. Halfway through the race, Desalle fell spectacularly and lost contact with the leaders. Cairoli meanwhile released his devils, passed de Dycker and easily won the first heat ahead of de Dycker and Desalle.
In the super final Cairoli left as the hole starter. With Desalle on his wheel, a direct duel seemed to be in the making. The Suzuki rider, who needed some stitches in his abdomen after his fall in the first moto, was able to continue for a few laps but eventually had to drop out. Gautier Paulin came up and passed Desalle, who eventually crossed the finish line in third place. Joel Roelants finished seventh in this heat and Kevin Strijbos crossed the finish line in tenth. Jeremy Van Horebeek and Jens Getteman retired in the Superfinal
From 3de The season's GP will take place on April 1 in Valkenswaard, Netherlands.
