James Stewart Freestone jumping championship
It's that time again, spring is in the house, the birds are singing and everyone can enjoy the cross again in shorts and a T-shirt. Oh… who am I kidding. The weather is damn bad, everyone is pissed off, irritated and the cross races are being canceled en masse. This year we could easily have organized a winter Olympics, the World Snowmobile Cross Championships and a winter X-games. But we don't want that at all... WE WANT GOOD WEATHER AND MOTORCROSS!!!
That's why I started looking for something reasonably interesting for you that has to do with motocross. I then came across a race about 8km away in warm Freestone, Texas. The best amateurs in America competed there during the 'James Stewart Freestone jumping championship'. Quite a mouthful. Riders of all ages, from 000 years old to those over 4, could register in 50 different classes. It is therefore not admirable that there are pilots who register in 44 different classes. And that the event consisted of one training day and four competition days.
Some interesting names at the start there were; Cooper Webb, a talented American who will normally make his pro debut in Hangtown. Anthony Rodriguez, a Loretta Lynn's winner and known for the 'Road to Loretta's' series. Austin Forkner, Adam Cianciarulo's successor within the Monster Energy kawaski youth program. And the already world famous one Jordan Biese, the boy who beat Liam Everts to Indianapolis.
We'll start with the youngest on that list. Jordan Biese, he started in four different classes, two on a 50cc and two on a 65cc. Jordan was unable to finish two heats in any of these classes. Which resulted in a poor overall performance in all four of his matches. Yet he can return home quite satisfied. He decided to race the last race of the weekend, despite hurting himself after a crash two days earlier. That alone is impressive. His results are not bad either. In the 50cc classes he finished fourth each time and in the 65cc classes he finished eighth and fifth.
Cooper Webb However, he did better in one of his last amateur competitions. He took home two 250cc titles. The 250A and the 250A Pro sport he completely dominated classes. He won four of the four heats. However, a 450cc engine suits him a little less. In the 450A Pro Sports class, he seemed to repeat what he did with the 250s. But for another unknown reason he decided not to start in the second series. However, he did start both series in the 450A class. But there he ended up in second place. After RJ Hampshire.
Then who has the 450A Pro Sports won class? That title is now in the name of the Venezuelan Anthony Rodriguez. A second and third place was enough for him to take home the victory. In the other classes he competed in he finished third (250A), second (250A Pro sport) and third (450A).
Finally, we'll talk about it for a moment Austin Forkner. A super mini rider (112cc 2-stroke engines) and a 85 tsp rider. He is the successor to Adam Cianciarulo within the Monster Energy youth program, who will in turn make his pro debut in Hangtown. Austin isn't being compared to Adam yet, simply because they think Cianciarulo is an extraordinary talent. Yet I am already quite certain that our Belgians will one day have to compete against Forkner in a motocross of nations. This fourteen-year-old boy can blast his motorcycle so fast that no one can actually follow him. This way he can also go home satisfied with two titles, a supermini and an 85cc title. He was also entered in two other classes, also on an 85cc and a supermini. But during the second series of the supermini 1 class he crashed and decided not to start in the second series of the 85cc class.
As you can read, I have not explained all 44 classes. But I certainly hope that your weekend has now become a little more pleasant. If you are still bored, you can always enjoy the videos that our colleagues from Vurbmoto have made.
