Ben Townley quits…!!!
Ben Townley has announced the end of his career. After years of injuries, Townley is putting an end to it. The New Zealander made his debut in the 2001 World Championship. A few years later in 2004, Townley won the world title in the MX2 class. In 2005 he started in the MX1 and finished third in the final standings after his compatriot Joshua Coppins and Stefan Everts. One year he tried his hand at the big lake and ended up in Mitch Payton's team (Pro Circuit Kawasaki Team). His biggest success came in his freshman year when he took the title at the Lites East Coast SX and finished second at the Nationals. Then came a number of bad seasons due to the many injuries he suffered. In 2011 Townley tried again in the World Championship, but after the Grand Prix of Portugal he decided against it and left for New Zealand. In recent years, Townley has worked in his home country and Australia for the Carlton Dry Honda Racing team. A few weeks ago, disaster struck again for Townley and he crashed during the preparation for the Australian Championship. A broken collarbone and concussion may have been too much for the always sympathetic New Zealander...
Ben Townley : Making this decision was certainly not easy. I haven't been able to complete a full season without an injury in the last five years and that's starting to take its toll. I really enjoyed driving and it was also 22 years of my life. Now I have a wife and two beautiful young sons and that made my decision easier. However, I will still do some riding at certain special competitions. My family and relatives now have priority and I attach great importance to that. I promised my team that I would go for the title. But after my last injury I noticed that it still took me some time to fully recover. Of course I want to stay in motocross, I'm only 28 now and I think I can still bring a lot to the sport. Of course I will continue to work closely with the Carlton Dry Honda Racing team, I personally can no longer turn the throttle. But can provide support to the team in a different way.
