Invitation to plant CO2 forest!
The sport of motocross is still very much alive in Flanders. It remains the only sport in which Belgium has 15 world champions. However, support among the general public is decreasing, despite the numerous efforts of the sector (federations, industry, riders, organizers) to limit inconvenience as much as possible. Now that there are hardly any training circuits left, the sport is in danger. In 2009, the 'Save the Motocross' working group was launched following yet another closure of a training circuit (Neeroeteren). The working group receives the active cooperation of the federations, the industry (Motorcycle Council) and the ex-motocross world champions Eric Geboers, Stefan Everts and Joel Smets, together with a number of motivated volunteers.
The motocross sector is actively working towards a sustainable sport in a sustainable society. Led by our great motocross tenors, the official starting signal for the “CO 2012 tree planting campaign” was given at the 2 Auto and Motor Show on the Heysel. A total of 2.500 CO2 trees were sold at the Car and Motorcycle Show and during various motocross competitions. The intention now is to effectively plant all purchased trees and thus offset the CO2 emissions caused by our sport, according to the motto. 'Motocross goes for Zero Co2' After a long search to effectively plant these trees, a solution was found thanks to the cooperation of the Bos+ association. Through the 10 Million Trees campaign we can plant 1 hectare of new forest in the urban fringe forest of Ostend.
Op Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 15 p.m will be on a piece of land along the Karperstraat in Ostend Stefan Everts and his son Liam gave the starting signal for the planting of the 2500 MX trees. Other great champions such as Eric Geboers (spokesman of the Save the Motocross working group), Joel Smets, Steve Ramon, etc. will also be present to lend a hand and provide the necessary explanations. However, the biggest work will be done by numerous young motocross riders who wish to secure the future of their beloved sport.
In this way we help to expand the urban fringe forest in Ostend and allow everyone to enjoy it. We hereby invite you to attend this action that is so important for our sport. We will provide the necessary media attention with the presence of national and regional TV channels. Your presence would send an important solution-oriented signal to our many athletes, organizers and volunteers to the current difficulties facing our sport.
May we ask you for your possible presence via the forum www.time4mx.be (under MX General you will find the topic) so that we can make the necessary arrangements for a good reception?
