Spanish title for Jonathan Barragan and LS Honda!
LS Honda Racing rider Jonathan Barragan secured yesterday These Are Coming (in the northwestern region of Castile and Leon) of the Spanish MX1 title. The popular Spaniard started the final round of his national championship with an 11-point lead over Alvaro Lozano. DIGA rider José Antonio Butron won both heats in La Baneza. In the end, two third places were enough for 'JB' to win his second consecutive MX1 title. With this, Jonathan was able to celebrate his fourth national MX1 title of his career. After the highly regarded Italian MX1 title in 2010 (David Guarneri), Open Belgian titles in 2009 (Clément Desalle) in 2011 (Shaun Simpson), LS Honda Racing can now add a fourth championship in four years to its list of achievements with Jonathan Barragan. This further highlights the performance and reliability of the CRF450R prepared by LS Honda!
After it Salgada Circuit won the Spanish Grand Prix last year, the local club was given the honor of organizing the final of the eight-round MX Elite. The hard track in La Baneza combines a fast section with tight and twisty elements and several hairpin bends. Although he could fall back on a points advantage, Barragan also had to contend with a huge handicap. Because he did so during the last GP in Teutschenthal had broken a finger in his right hand, the LS Honda rider had to fight back the pain. Jonathan took the holeshot in the opening series and then rode to a calculated third place behind Butron and Lozano. With the championship at stake, the 27-year-old Madrilenian did not have the start he wanted in the exciting final round. Still, he kept a cool head. Jonathan managed to climb quite quickly from sixth place after the first lap to third place at the finish.
Jonathan Barragan: “It was definitely one of my goals to extend my Spanish title. I am very happy that I succeeded despite the injury to my finger! It was a shame to miss the MX of Nations in Lommel, but to be able to give everything here it was the only right choice. Both Jose Antonio (Butron) and Alvaro (Lozano) were a little faster today so I decided to ride it safe. With eight rounds, the Spanish championship is quite long, and in 16 heats anything can happen! I also started the championship injured, which made it anything but easy. That makes this title even more special! After a disappointing season, I am happy to be able to give something back to the team and my fans. “
Steven Lettani, team manager LS Honda Racing: “I can only congratulate Jonathan and his mechanic Denis on their wonderful work! It was quite a job to combine the eight races of the Spanish MX Elite Championship with the MX1 World Championship, but we succeeded. We have seen that 'JB' was faster and more aggressive in his own country than in the GPs. In the world championship he struggled to reach that same high level. Hopefully this award will help his confidence. In any case, the Spanish MX1 title is a great milestone for us. In the past four years we have now won four major titles together, it is becoming a great tradition. The fact that we have achieved success in three different countries is also very cool. Maybe we should add the European flag after our name!”
