World Champion WMX 2012 – Chaira Fontanesi
The Italian Chaira Fontanesi was crowned the new FIM Women's World Champion 2012 in the English Matterley Basin. With one GP to go, the 18-year-old Fontanesi managed to win her very first world title. She was born and raised in Parma, Italy and competes for the Fonta MX Racing Team, which receives support from Yamaha-Rinaldi.
In 2009 she took her first step in WMX and even took her first series victory in the Lierop GP. She finished her first World Championship season in ninth place.
Her second season with the WMX she finished fourth in the World Championship final standings and took two series victories.
Last season she took her first GP victory in Finland as well as the final GP in France. But in the World Cup she had to recognize the superior in Stephanie Laier. Fontanesi eventually became vice world champion and finished nine points behind Laier.
This year, Fontanesi has already won five of the seven races held and thus became the new WMX world champion with one GP to go.
