Preview Grand Prix of Benelux (Lierop)
MAC Lierop celebrate their 40th anniversary in 2012 and will also host the fourteenth match of the World Cup. With the Grand Prix of the Benelux, this is already the fifteenth Grand Prix organization for MAC Lierop. The fact that the club from Lierop always delivered professional work resulted in 2001 with the very first Triple Grand Prix. Later in the year, MAC Lierop was named “Organizer of the Year”. The high point came in 2004, partly due to the 100th anniversary of the KNMV, it was still possible to bring the Motorcross of Nations to “De Herselse bosn”. MAC Lierop was also so successful with this organization that it was once again named the world's best organizer. Also in 2012 one can certainly expect a perfect organization in and around the “De Herselse bos”…
Jeffrey Herlings against the rest!!!
This weekend it will be Jeffrey Herlings' first Grand Prix in “De Herselse bosn”. Herlings is already in his third season in MX2, but has never been able to compete in Lierop due to injuries. Herlings currently has a very large lead of 51 points in the World Championship standings and can take his 15th GP victory in Lierop.
The question is of course who can beat 'The Bullet'...
Are Jeremy Van Horebeek, Tommy Searle, Zach Osborne, Jake Nicholls, Jordi Tixier able to continue in Herlings' footsteps... Hopefully so, of course, but once Herlings has found his drive in the Herselse woods it will be difficult to to put anything in his way. Herlings is absolutely almost unbeatable in the sand and without bad luck he should certainly be able to finish his home GP with a win... The second Dutchman than Glenn Coldenhoff is also a typical sand rider and can certainly make his mark on Sunday and thus enter the top ten of the World Championship.
Our compatriots certainly expect something from Jens Getteman. The Standing Construct Suzuki rider is having a very strong end to the season. But hopefully Julien Lieber, Kenny Vandueren and Jeffrey Dewulf can also score some points just across the Belgian border.
Who can beat this Cairoli…
In the MX1 class, Antonio Cairoli is of course the favorite, although he can expect the most opposition from his own KTM team. In particular Ken De Dijcker, who is having a strong season and already took a GP victory in Lierop in 2009. Or can the third KTM rider Max Nagl provide the surprise. Of course we should not forget to mention our fellow countrymen Clement Desalle and Kevin Strijbos. They are certainly keen to put in a good performance after their weak English GP.
Marc De Reuver is the one who also wants to play for his own people. Of course, Marc has been around for a number of years and his heyday in the sand seems to be over. But who knows, he might be able to do a little more in the sand. Furthermore, we will have to wait and see what Paulin, Pourcel, Simpson, Bobryshev and Goncalves can do against all that KTM violence…
On Sunday around 17 p.m. we will know who managed to survive the sandbox of the Herselse forests best...
