Baggett and Dungey again at Southwick
Southwick is seen as the 'Lommel' of the states. It is the toughest circuit in the AMA nationals calendar and always leads to a physical battle of attrition. So the big test for the MXON later this year… Roger Decoster announced his team for Lommel in Southwick and is keen to take home the 23rd victory for the states with Dungey, Barcia and Baggett.
And yes, these three were also the trendsetters of the National in Southwick… Dungey was again the overall victor in the 450 class but did not get it in a picture. In the first moto the KTM rider received a lot of resistance from Alessi but ultimately took the victory. In the second heat, Dungey fell halfway and the fuel cap fell off the gas tank. Dungey remained in the lead but the team were not confident he would have enough fuel after the crash and called him in for a pit stop. A quick 14s pit stop saw Dungey back on track just after Rattray. Dungey went on the attack, but Rattray also proved he could drive a bit in the sand (how could that be after living in Lommel for 10 years...) and persevered to the finish.
In the end, the overall victory went to Dungey for Alessi and Tickle. Rattray did not get further than 20th place in the first moto after a fall at the start.
Things got exciting again at the Lites. Tomac won the first heat dominantly ahead of Musquin, Baggett and Roczen. Barcia finished seventh after a few mistakes. In the second moto Roczen quickly took the lead. Baggett quickly followed in second place, but Kenny was able to maintain a lead of about five seconds until halfway through the race. Baggett came up and took the lead. Roczen did not give up and took back the lead. Just before the end, Baggett prevailed to win the match and become the overall victor ahead of Tomac and Roczen. Barcia crashed again at the start and finished fifth.
