MX1 Counter: Antonio Cairoli equals Joël Robert!
The established order remained respected in Loket, although the circuit had regularly produced surprises in the past. Despite the insistence of Cristophe Pourcel en Clément Desalle added Tony Cairoli two series victories to his enormous list of achievements. The little Sicilian thus climbs to 50 GP victories in the 'eternal rankings'. This means that Antonio is now level with Joel Robert. Only Stefan Everts (101) in Joel Smets (57) did better. Pourcel and Desalle were allowed on stage. For Ken De Dycker (6th), Loket was a very unremarkable GP; For Kevin Strijbos, often one of the standouts in the Czech Republic in the past, the 12th GP of the season was downright disappointing. Kevin only finished 14th, Marc De Reuver also failed to perform.
In the World Cup, Cairoli now leads with 30 points ahead of Desalle, Christophe Pourcel is third at 57 points behind the Italian. De Dycker and Strijbos remain fifth and sixth respectively.
Cairoli from A to Z
From the first to the last lap, Antonio Cairoli was in the lead. The World Cup leader rode to victory with control. Fast starter Pourcel also rode a consistent race. He mostly maintained contact with Cairoli but was unable to force a breakthrough. The sensation of the match came from the returning Max Nagl. After starting in the top 5, he continued his rise and finished third! Clément Desalle had a bad start and recovered to fourth place. The first series was not a high-flyer for the other Belgians either; Ken De Dycker crossed the finish line in 7th, Kevin Strijbos finished 15th. Marc De Reuver was 18th. Guest driver Jeremy Delincé had to abandon the race 7 laps before the end.
Emotional stunt by Nagl, Cairoli remains cool
Very few riders can start like Max Nagl. We were also reminded of that during his return appearance! Nagl steered his SX-F 450 to the holeshot and stayed in the lead for a good 8 laps. A persistent Clément Desalle took the lead but when he had to bow to Cairoli the match was over. Pourcel was in second place after passing Desalle, but due to a slip, Cri-Cri fell to 4th. The Frenchman managed to get past Nagl, but Desalle remained out of reach. However, with a very convincing fourth place in the final standings, 'der Max' clearly showed that he still counts. The fighting spirit with which Max fought back when teammate Cairoli came alongside also said a lot about his drive. A solid Rui Goncalves turned a nice start into fifth place. Ken De Dycker started 9th but barely managed to make any progress. Keeno would eventually cross the finish line in 8th place.
