European Championship MX250: Graulus on the podium in Matterley Basin
With a second place behind Frenchman Maxime Desprey, Damon Graulus saved the Belgian honor during the British round of the MX250 European Championship. The Standing Construct Suzuki rider was the only Belgian to score points in both heats.
It was a long weekend for the European Championship riders. On Friday morning they had to start their free training. They closed it on Sunday at 17pm local time Matterley Basin MX Festivalweekend as the last class to finish.
Maxime Desprey immediately took the initiative on Friday evening. The Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasakirider won the first round for the Dane Stefan Kjaer Olsen. Damon Graulus had briefly occupied second place, but had to let the Dane go first in the final phase. But with a third place the Standing Construction Suzukidriver immediately recorded his best result of the season. Not exactly a surprise because last year he was also on the podium in the European Championship 125 in Matterley Basin. The only other Belgian who left a good impression was Brent Van Doninck the one like 6e finished. From the Dutch delegation Donnie Bastemeijer, Micha-Boy de Waal en Brian Bogers points.
Almost 48 hours later the European Championship MX2 boys were finally able to complete their second round. Brent Van Doninck had started poorly this time and would not finish the heat. From an 8e place started knew Granules to progress to 4e place. For a moment it looked like he was riding strong Mike Kras could threaten. But the Wallet phone Suzukidriver was able to hold third place. Graulus could in turn Kjaer Olsen still hold off. At the front it was again Desprey who called the shots. European Championship leader Mel Pocock proved unable to win in front of their own audience. The Dutch now did slightly better with ninth place Bastemeijer and a fifteenth for by Waal. Some on the Belgian side knew Ludovic Brevers (16e) On Julien Van Stippen (18e) to score points.
