EWC 2012: Guerrero new leader in E2
The Scorpion Exo Enduro GP of Italy was the round where the world championship leaders had a hard time. This was the case in all senior classes. However, not every World Cup leader would be hit equally hard.
This way, Antoine Meo was able to take the victory in the E1 on Saturday. However, a day later the Frenchman dropped out and his Finnish teammate Eero Remes was able to take full advantage to take the day's victory. However, Meo remains firmly in the lead with a thirty-point lead over compatriot Thain.
In the king's class, Pierre-Alexandre Renet could no longer impose his will on the peloton in Tuscany. It was Salminen who took the victory on Saturday. But the French Husaberg rider was able to limit the damage with a third place behind Guerrero. On Sunday Guerrero won, beating Salminen. A stone between the chain on the Enduro test would cost Renet four minutes. With thirteenth place, Renet could only score a few points. And that meant that Spanish KTM factory rider Cristobal Guerrero became the new leader in the E2 class. The Spaniard now has a four-point lead over Renet, which bodes well for the three remaining GPs. 'Jeff' Goblet was able to score on both days with a 12 each timee place.
The established order was also shaken up in E3 when David Knight managed to take the class victory on Saturday. This broke Christophe Nambotin's hegemony. Albeit only for a short while, because on Sunday the French two-stroke specialist was again in the leading position. Nambotin also continues to lead the E3 rankings.
