MX2 Podium talk Saint-Jean d'Angély
Jeffrey Herlings managed to extend his lead over title rival Tommy Searle by two points in Saint-Jean d'Angély. The Red Bull KTM rider won the French MX2 GP and remains on course for the title. Jeremy Van Horebeek overcame the pain caused by his injured ankle to finish third. Below you can read what the three best said about the French MX2 GP.
Jeffrey Herlings, Red Bull KTM – GP winner (1-2), World Championship leader with 270 pts.
“After I got the holeshot, my first moto went pretty easy. In the second moto I had a bad start and had to settle from 10the place back to 2e fight.”
Tommy Searle, Monster Energy Kawasaki – second (3-1), second in the World Championship standings with 248 pts.
"It was probably the best prepared track of the season. But that also meant there was less difference between the fastest riders and the rest, making it harder to push your way to the front after a bad start. After I won the qualifying race on Saturday we decided to choose the inner gate of the starting gate. But the starting field was pushed flat, causing my rear wheel to sink into the soft gravel, so I was almost the last to leave. When I arrived in third place the leaders were gone. In the second race I was quickly second and was able to easily pass the leader. I sat down for a while and was soon able to clear a gap."
Jeremy Van Horebeek, Red Bull KTM – third (2-3), third in the World Championship standings with 188 pts.
"I hurt my ankle in the warm-up and for a moment I thought this would be the end of my season, but the x-rays showed that my ligaments were just a bit sprained. So I was able to start in the first moto and I even felt good, but I lacked that little bit extra to compete with Jeffrey. In the second moto I made it into 2e a mistake in the corner that dropped me to fifth place. Then I twisted my ankle again and had to let Jeffrey go first. The championship is still open. I know my speed is good and I will continue to do my best."
