Double hit Barragan in front of his own audience!
LS Honda Racing's Jonathan Barragan yesterday took the lead in the Spanish MX Elite Championship that took place in The Molar, near Madrid. The reigning Spanish champion provided the perfect day as he managed to win both rounds on his home circuit, in the organization of his own club! Nearly 4.500 fans attended the 6th round of the season. Barragan was joined on the podium by Diga Racing's José Antonio Butron (second) and Alvaro Lozano (third).
Due to the persistent heat and the associated dust development, the organizing Moto Club Molareño & Conarpesa was forced to cancel the program on Saturday. Fortunately, it didn't stop there because due to constant spraying during the night and on Sunday, the track was in excellent condition the next day, given the circumstances. Butron took pole in timed practice and led the first two laps of the first heat. Then, loudly cheered on by his fans, Barragan passed the leader. To clear the gap, Jonathan pushed hard for a few laps and that was enough to take control of the race. Ultimately he crossed the line more than 10 seconds ahead of Butron.
Due to the usual commotion at the start, 'JB7' almost went down at the beginning of series two. However, Jonathan kept a cool head, no mean feat given the tropical temperature, and quickly moved up from third to second place. He kept Butron's KTM in his sights for almost the entire moto and picked up the pace in the closing stages to take his 6th win of the season. With the LS Honda rider in first place, ahead of Butron, Lozano and the Frenchman Maxime Lesage, the first four were identical to those of the first series.
We have to wait until September 16 for the penultimate round of the Spanish championship.
Jonathan Barragan: “I was at the start in El Molar to win. Of course, expectations are always higher when you have to ride in front of your own audience. Despite the heat, I felt good and the riding went well. In the second moto I took a quick look because I knew that José Antonio (Butron) would be fast in the beginning. I gradually increased my speed, and that tactic turned out to be the right one. Driving in El Molar on a circuit that I know very well is always fun. The fact that I managed to win just when a race for the Spanish championship was being held for the first time completed the success. After our bad luck in Bastogne, I feel ready to fight for a strong result in Sweden as well.”
