Update Brent Van Doninck after Axel
The only 16-year-old Brent Van Doninck (KTM) already showed great results in his first full season in MX2. After the Belgian National in Axel, Brent wanted to keep you informed of his progress. Van Doninck has good news and less good news, but it is to the credit of the promising Herentals resident that he reports it himself. More people should do that ; o )
Brent: “Driving went well in Axel even though I didn't start well in the first heat. I rode towards the MX2 leaders. With a few laps to go the leader, Mike Kras, came into view but then my knee locked up. I could no longer continue and had to leave the match. I started better in the second series. This time I got to the front and even managed to build a nice lead! Four laps before the end my knee locked up again. Dju! I tried to get them loose and continue riding, but the pain was too much and I had to stop.”
Too bad, but unfortunately because the speed was certainly good. In October Brent had surgery on his knee in Eeklo. After 4 months of rehabilitation it turned out that the knee was not in good condition with all the consequences that entailed. Father Hans Vandoninck: “We went to Dr. Claes in Herentals for a 2nd opinion, but those two specialists completely contradict each other about what the cause could be. A delicate situation. Hopefully we will find a solution by the MX2 European Championships in France in two weeks! After all, with his current speed, Brent could perform well there.”
