Stewart is back, Baggett is masterful!
The first national was held in Hangtown this weekend. In the 450 class it was mainly looking forward to James Stewart who had not won a national since 2008. However, Stewart did not disappoint and won both heats with flying colors. In the first moto Stewie beat his old teammate Davi Millsaps and Ryan Dungey and in the second moto he defeated Dungey in a head-to-head match, which is a huge mental boost. Mike Alessi finished third after a holeshot in the second moto and was also third on the podium in the final standings.
Tyla Rattray had to leave the first series with a broken hand and will therefore be out for a few weeks.
In the lites we saw a super exciting series in the first heat. Barcia took the fastest start ahead of Roczen. Roczen quickly attacked and took the lead. Behind them, Tedesco, Tomac, Baggett and Wilson battled it out for the remaining top 5 spots. Wilson retired after a few laps because his shoulder kept dislocating and decided to end the season. At the front, Baggett started his famous charge halfway and jumped to the front. Lap after lap he got closer to the leaders and three laps before the end we had a battle between four riders for the leading position. Going into the final lap he passed Barcia and only a few corners before the end did he pass Roczen to take home the victory.
In the second moto the fastest start was again for Barcia, but this time Baggett quickly took the lead. Roczen was also at the front but made a mistake in the initial phase. At the finish it was Baggett ahead of Barcia and Roczen, which was also the final podium.
