Maxxis British MX: Bad luck Strijbos, lead for Karro
Kevin Strijbos has dominated the MX1 class of the Maxxis British MX Championship until now, but that changed during the fourth round at Milton MX Park in Northampton. It was STR KTM rider Mattis Karro who would pull the curtains...
It was the Estonian Mattis Karro who took pole position in the morning during the so-called Superpole session. Karro was 0.05 seconds faster than Kevin Strijbos. Shaun Simpson followed in third ahead of guest driver Joshua Coppins and Kristian Whatley. Karro would also prove to be the fastest in the first heat. He won by a good 8 seconds ahead of Tyco Suzuki's Stephen Sword and Shaun Simpson. Strijbos turned 9e about 4 seconds behind Marc de Reuver.
The victory would also go to the Latvian in the second MX1 round. He won with a lead of just under 7 seconds over Shaun Simpson. Kevin Strijbos became 3e at 30 seconds. Also in the combined (MX1-MX2) 3e round – or Superfinal if you prefer – there was no limit for Mattis Karro. The Latvian outpaced the opposition and won by 24 seconds over Shaun Simpson. Kevin Strijbos would not score any points in this heat. When he fell, his throttle broke and so it was game over for the HM Plant KTM UK rider. Elliot Banks-Browne was the best MX2 rider in the 3e heat. Karro did an excellent job in Northampton because in addition to the three heat victories and the overall victory, he also took the championship lead. The DNF cost Kevin Strijbos a lot of points and that meant he moved to third place in the standings.
