Butron beats Barragan in Spanish MX Elite
DIGA Racing pilot José Antonio Butron once again proved that he is currently in top form. After a tough day in Alhama de Murcia, in the south of Spain, José Antonio finished level on points with champion Jonathan Barragan. However, since Butron won the second race, he took the overall score! Coincidentally, a top duel between two Belgian employed pilots was on the program near Murcia...
In the standings, Alvaro Lozano remains the leader, Barragan follows on 13 points. The Spanish MX Elite is now exactly halfway through as the championship has 8 rounds. The hard 'Las Salinas' circuit in Murcia was bathed under a leaden sun for the 4th round of the Spanish MX Elite Championship. Butron was already the fastest in the morning ahead of Joan Cortes and Barragan. The track was very treacherous due to the ruts and holes, but that could not prevent the LS Honda Racing rider from starting the day with a nice series victory. Throughout the series, in-form man Butron and Barragan stayed close to each other. Just after half the race, Jonathan took over command again after a mistake by Butron. At the finish, the 26-year-old Spaniard had almost 6 seconds left over his compatriot. 'JB7' also had a good start in the second round. Butron took the lead and would not relinquish it despite Barragan's pressure!
José-Antonio Butron said our colleagues from MX1Onboard the following: "I was just able to steal the holeshot from Jonathan in the first race and that makes a big difference! Due to a crash I lost the lead, the difference with Barragan was less than 10 seconds. My speed was good, but coming back to the lead was no longer possible. I have already lost too many points for the championship, but my victory in the second round was very rewarding. I was in the lead the entire race and I finished it!”
Jonathan Barragan: “It was very hot in Murcia! I had two really good starts and I won in the first race. Too bad I didn't get past José Antonio in the second heat. Still, it was a positive match. The riding went well, our suspension problems are finally resolved and I feel ready for the Grand Prix of Mexico. Now it's up to me to put the puzzle together during the next two GPs.”
