SuzMX interviews Kenny Dult
A while ago Suz had a very nice chat with Kenny Dult at the cross in Eeklo. Kenny rides in the MCLB at the Inters MX1/MX3, he lives with Caroline and he is the dad of Ryan and Lies.
SuzMX: You come from a MX family, your father Patrick was a good pilot, your brother Heiki is also a pilot. So does it seem obvious that you also started racing from a young age? And also had a nice track record?
Kenny Dult: "Not really! I only started racing when I was 16 years old. I became Belgian Inters B champion in 2003 and Belgian Inters MX2007 champion in 2.”
SuzMX: Last year in Burst you had an ugly crash where your life hung by a thread at a certain point, an emergency operation saved your life, but you also had to continue living with 1 kidney. Do you now look at life differently and do you now also have a different feeling?
Hidden: “After my operation I was very tired. Even going down a flight of stairs was a challenge, it gradually got better and better, and no, I don't have to live differently. However, after a major effort I have to be careful not to drink too much at once, but in small gulps. During the competition I try to avoid as many risks as possible, although once the bar falls I go to the extreme.”
SuzMX: Why the change from mx 2 to mx 1/3?
Hidden: “To limit the pressure and stress of wanting to win. Seronval, Wybo and Torpie are stronger, so the urge to be on the podium is also smaller. I also did that to take fewer risks. In the MX2 I mainly started around 10th place and first had to overtake a lot of pilots. There is a risk with every passage. Now that I'm riding MX 1/3, I start much better at the front and I have to take fewer risks. I now try to finish as close as possible and all the duels I can win already give me satisfaction."
SuzMX: What does a Kenny Dult do in daily life and for the sport itself during the week?
Hidden: “I work in two shifts at Volvo trucks. I cycle to work every time and still walk for an hour 2 to 3 times a week. Also at least once every 14 days for motorcycle training. I certainly want to do a good job with my physical training. My accident should not be an excuse for a poorer competition! On Wednesday afternoons you will mainly find me in Westdorpe. I teach youth pilots there, and yes, my own son Ryan is already doing well. On Saturdays I am a vjmo initiator. There are guys who have it in them. The nice thing is that those guys really look up and listen. What Kenny said is always better than how mom or dad explain it! Hahaha, that's nice about teaching.”
SuzMX: Finally, which people are important to you?
Hidden: "Of course my kids and the mother of my Kids Caroline. I would also like to thank my dad for all the work on the engine and maintenance, because I don't do anything to the engine myself. I would also like to thank the club "strong together" who provide the engine. Sinisalo for the clothes (Pascal), the Willems family of DT 1 filters, Berimar parts, friends and supporters, Dirk Tanghe from Honda. What is important to me now is to ride for a long time without injuries and to continue to have fun and win great duels. I would also love it if my son Ryan would succeed his dad!”
