Paulin wins in Sevlievo, Desalle loses many points
Frenchman Gautier Paulin (Kawasaki) won the second GP of the season in Sevlievo, Bulgaria. Paulin had to let his compatriot Christophe Pourcel (Kawasaki) go ahead in the first moto, but dominated the second moto. Pourcel finished second in the final standings and reigning world champion Antonio Cairoli (KTM) finished third in the final standings after fourth and third places. Belgian Ken de Dycker (KTM) rode two strong heats and finished fourth in the final standings with a seventh and fourth place.
The big loser of the weekend was Clement Desalle, who finished third in the first series. The MX Panda crashed in the second series and had to continue with a bent handlebar. He made a pit stop for some repairs but did not get further than 18th place. Desalle thus loses important points in the fight for the World Cup. Kevin Strijbos (KTM) finished 12th in the final standings. Herjan Brakke managed to score one point in the second heat. After a holeshot by Cairoli, Christophe Pourcel took the lead in the first moto. Despite early pressure from Paulin, CP377 did not relinquish that first place. Paulin took his revenge on Pourcel in the second moto. A motivated De Dycker raced from 7th to 3rd place, but ultimately had to let teammate Cairoli go ahead. The injured Evgeny Bobryshev rode to his best result of the day, fifth place. Kevin Strijbos again had a bad start, but the HM Plant-KTM rider managed to return nicely from 22nd to 10th place. For David Philippaerts, crash and 13th at the finish, and Rui Goncalves, retirement, the second heat did not go as hoped.
In the World Cup standings, Cairoli remains the leader, now 9 points ahead of Paulin. Desalle falls to third place and is now 21 points behind the reigning world champion. Ken de Dycker follows in fourth place and Kevin Strijbos in sixth place.
The next race will be held next weekend in Fermo, Italy
