Again points for Kevin Fors in Sevlievo
The second GP of the season was held this weekend in Sevlievo, Bulgaria. After the successful start in the deep sand, the riders were presented with a completely different circuit this time. The hard and super fast circuit in Sevlievo is a type of circuit that our Belgian riders do not ride much and therefore requires an adjustment. In addition to the MX2 riders, Nathan Renkens was also allowed to compete in the European Championship125cc for the first time this year.
On Saturday, things quickly went wrong for Kenny Vandueren during the qualifying series. Kenny had a serious fall and dislocated his shoulder. Over and out for Vandueren, who left for Belgium as quickly as possible for further research. Kevin Fors rode a good qualifying series and was 18th at the starting gate on Sunday. Things quickly went wrong for Nathan in the 125cc class. During the first practice session, he had a serious fall on one of the many big jumps and hurt his foot. Fortunately, he was able to continue and managed to complete the entire weekend.
Despite the pain, Nathan tried to make the best of it in the first heat on Saturday evening. After starting in 30th place, he made a few mistakes but still managed to come back to 31st place. In the second moto on Sunday the feeling was slightly better, but a mistake on the second lap relegated him to last place. Nathan fought until the last meter and eventually came back to 32nd place.
In the first race of the MX2 class, Fors got off to a pretty good start and finished in 17th place. He found a good rhythm and continued to circle this spot throughout the entire race. In the final phase he lost another place to Mel Pock and finished in 18th place, which was good for 3 points. In the second moto Kevin's start was even better. He came through in 12th and seemed to be on his way to a good moto. The track was heavily sprayed with dust and was very treacherous. Kevin slipped and fell. The crash itself was not serious, but a following rider crashed into Kevin. He got hit on the head and was completely dizzy, so he decided to end the match. Fors finished in 21st place in the final standings. He is now in 23rd place in the World Cup standings.
Marnicq Bervoets: “We knew this was a difficult circuit, as we don't know this in Belgium. Kevin adapted well and rode quite well. It's a shame about his fall, but the fact that he's taking points again gives us confidence. Unfortunately, Nathan already fell in the first training. After his fall, his confidence was gone and that ruined his entire weekend. I am glad that he continued to ride despite the pain, so that he could gain a lot of experience. Things went completely wrong for Kenny. He will be seen by the doctor early next week, but I fear that the ligaments of the collarbone will have been severely damaged, so we will have to wait and see. Next week Ludovic Brevers will start in his place. This is a good opportunity for him to gain experience and get to know the speed of the GPs.”
Kevin Fors: “All in all I am satisfied with the weekend. The first laps on Saturday I was really impressed by the fast lap, but as the weekend progressed I started to enjoy the track more and more. I was able to achieve my goal again and score points. Unfortunately I had to give up in the second series. I had a good start and had the feeling that I could do even better than in the first series. After the fall my head hurt a lot and I felt so weak that I thought it better not to take any risks. On to Italy!”
Nathan Renkens: “Phew, it really was a weekend of trial and error. I fell hard in the first training and hurt my foot. Because of this fall I no longer had confidence on the jumps and my foot cramped. However, I wanted to fight for every meter and I am happy that I did this, even though I made a lot of mistakes. I have learned a lot of things and hope that I can also learn the necessary lessons from this. I will continue to work hard together with Marnicq and hope to do better next week!”
