KEMEA Reytec Yamaha about Valkenswaard
After months of preparation, the Kemea Reytec Yamaha team's baptism of fire was finally upon us. After participating in the European Championships last year, two riders were at the start of the MX2 World Championship in Valkenswaard this weekend. The hard work of last winter paid off as the team was able to return home with the first World Cup points in its young history.
However, the weekend did not start optimally during the qualifying sessions on Sunday. Kenny Vandueren had engine problems and had to leave the qualifying race early, resulting in a last starting spot for Sunday's races. Kevin Fors, for his part, crashed in the first corner and had to start qualifying last. However, Fors fought until the last meter and recovered to 25th place in this short race.
In the first heat things quickly went wrong again for Fors, he finished 35th after 1 lap and had to start a comeback again. Lap after lap, Fors moved forward and eventually De Waal finished in 24th place, just ahead of Van Dueren. Kenny crossed the finish line in 1th place after 24 lap and stayed around this place for the entire series.
In the second moto Kenny started in 23rd place. A mistake in the second lap caused him to fall back a few places, but Van Dueren eventually made up for a large part of the lost positions. He finished 26th. Fors took a better start and finished 1th after 19 lap. Fors got into a group of several riders and tried to get a good rhythm. He held up well and finished in eighteenth place, which was immediately good for the first 3 points.
Team Manager Marnicq Bervoets: “I think we can look back on the first GP with great satisfaction. The disadvantage Kenny suffered with his foot injury made itself felt this weekend. Moreover, he had to go to the fence last, which made it very difficult to get a decent start. Kevin rode a strong second series and I am very satisfied that we can go home with points. There is still a lot of work to be done, but now the head is off and we can work to progressively improve the results throughout the season.”
Kenny Vandueren: “ I'm actually disappointed that I'm going home without any points. Due to the technical problems I had to go to the gate last and I took two bad starts. The riding itself went quite well, I mainly made sure that I was able to finish both heats and gain a lot of competition rhythm. Now it will be hard work for the next GPs to improve the results.”
Kevin Fors: “I am very satisfied with the weekend. My goal was to score points and I was able to do that. In the first moto the bike didn't run exactly as I wanted and that meant I couldn't go all out. The second moto was much better. The Yamaha felt good and I was able to maintain a good pace. Hard work is now the message so that the points balance can increase every GP!”
