De Dycker about his first ONK series victory
The ONK motocross race continued in Heerde amid widespread public interest. Ken De Dycker took victory in the second heat, but dropped out in the first heat, meaning he had to settle for sixth place in the overall standings. Teammate Jonathan Barragan clearly had to get used to the tough sand track. With a view to the GP of Valkenswaard, Jonathan gained useful experience, although he fell short of expectations with a mediocre 11th place in the second race.
After Ken's excellent second place during timed training, the first race turned out dramatically for the LS Honda Racing riders. De Dycker crashed at the start and Barragan was held up. Fortunately, a restart followed, this time Keeno came 10th from the treacherous left-right combination. The tall Belgian quickly managed to move up to fifth place, but at the start of the first heat his damper was damaged and therefore De Dycker had to drive in. Barragan started the opener poorly and although he managed to gain a few places, he could not be satisfied with a 22nd place.
During the second heat the track was at its toughest. That did not prevent Dycker from hitting hard from the sixth position after the start. Ken steered his CRF 450R smoothly past Brakke, de Reuver and Goncalves. For example, in the third round, in which he set the fastest lap time of the race, he took the lead and was no longer in the lead. De Dycker eventually won ahead of Paulin Goncalves and de Reuver. Barragan now also had a better start. Jonathan finished just outside the top ten after a regular series.
Ken De Dycker, winner 2nd series: “Winning is always great, but I am not satisfied with last weekend. In my opinion the ride was far too stiff. I also didn't find my way on the circuit. However, the fact that the track was tricky was the same for everyone. It's a pity that I retired in the first heat, otherwise I might have taken the lead in the championship here. Hopefully things will go more smoothly next weekend in Mill.”
Jonathan Barragan, 18th: “Heerde was very difficult for me, it had been six months since I last rode a race in the sand! The track was very difficult, but we can also expect that in Valkenswaard, which is why this ONK race was an excellent training. Compared to men like Bobryshev, Goncalves, Strijbos and Ken who rode a lot in the sand this winter, I still fell short. That is also normal. Of course I hope to be much further ahead by the Dutch Grand Prix.”
