Race report club cross Axel
The first RES Axel club cross is over and what a success! Many thought it wouldn't work? Well, yes.
It was a great MX day for young and old. Many riders managed to find their way back to the RES circuit, including some top riders who came to train for the ONK. Together with the regional riders, this resulted in beautiful series that the public enjoyed. Afterwards we saw many tired riders in the canteen to warm up. The RES received compliments from some top players for the super conditions.
65 CC
With 6 participants at the start, including a new regional rider Floris van Gremberghe from Koewacht. This young man is the youngest member of the Youth MX team Zeeuws-Vlaanderen.
The victory in both series went to Veron Jansen from Vlissingen by force majeure. Joshua van Doorn (Middelburg) finished second with two third places. Brent van Delft (St.Amands) managed to finish in third place. He had crashed in the first heat, but he corrected his results in the second heat, finishing fifth and second respectively.
Ryan de Beer (Made) in fourth place with also a fifth and second place in the series.
Jarno Acke (Middelharnis) took two fifth places in the heats, which also resulted in a fifth place in the final rankings. Sixth came Floris van Gremberghe, who narrowly missed out on the cups in his first match.
Daily results: 1. Veron Jansen, 2. Joshua van Doorn, 3. Brent van Delft, 4. Ryan de Beer, 5. Jarno Acke, 6. Floris van Gremberghe.
85 cc
A fantastic field of 21 participants. In both series it was Carsten Goedegebure from Yerseke, who left no doubt that he is already in good shape at the moment. Carsten won both series with a big lead and of course also won the day. Jens Carlier (Baal), in turn, claimed a double sculls in the heats, also with a reasonable lead over the third man from the heats Joey de Wulf (Oostburg). This made the top three a fact. In fourth place is Henson Lievens (Dworp), who dropped off considerably in the first series, but managed to fight back to sixth place in the first series and fourth place in the second series. The same result was achieved by Tom Cortvriendt (Axel), who also crashed in the second series. Stan Brons ('s Heer Abtskerke) finished fifth in both series. This result gave Stan sixth place in the final rankings.
Daily results: 1. Carsten Goedegebure, 2. Jens Carlier, 3. Joey de Wulf, 4. Henson Lievens, 5. Tom Cortvriendt.
MX-2
A starting gate full. More than 30 riders, including a new regional rider, namely Bart Risseeuw from Spui. He certainly rode creditably this day with a 26th place in heat 1, which can be considered good in the big event. Unfortunately, Bart had a DNF in the second series due to a fall.
No Joey Verwijs in this class. He has decided to move to the MX open class after two RES MX-2 titles.
In the first series, Florentijn de Roo (Terneuzen) managed to take the gang in tow and had to relinquish command after two laps. Ultimately, Aswin van Damme (Zuiddorpe) managed to win the race by taking second and first place in the heats. Experienced, calm and controlled, the trainer of Team Youth-MX ZVL rode to victory.
Jeroen Rombouts (Wuustwezel) managed to win the second series, but due to a poorer result in the first series, he saw his top three chances go up in smoke. Mario van Daele (Leisele) took second place in the day's results, with a second and third place. Guido Boone (Oost-Souburg) in turn took third place on the podium, with a third and fourth place in the heats. Jeroen Rombouts in fourth place, thanks to a victory in the second heat.
The top five was completed by the man from Terneuzen Florentijn de Roo.
Dimitri Dekker lost a top ranking in both series due to a fall.
Day results: 1. Aswin Vandamme, 2. Mario van Daele, 3. Guido Boone, 4. Jeroen Rombouts, 5. Florentijn de Roo.
MX open
Thomas Adriaanse (Lewedorp) a size too big for the competition. He won both heats with great dominance. With his well-known clean driving style, he crossed the finish line with a lead of more than 40 seconds in both heats. Bart Seymortier (Adegem) managed a double sculls and was satisfied with this and did a good job for the rankings now that the competition was not yet present at the start. Patrick Piessens (Heikant) was still recovering from a back injury and Pascal de Zeeuw (Zuiddorpe) was also not present due to a thumb injury.
Michael Bruyninckx (Lembeke) placed third in the final standings. With a third and fifth place, it was the first race in the MX open, because Michael will start in the BMB class for the promises this year.
The young Niels Baetens (Zaffelare) was fourth to collect his trophy with a seventh and third place in the series. Martijn Roos (Zuiddorpe) made his return after 6 months of inactivity, with a fifth place in the final rankings. Just like last year, this class promises to be a top competition where experienced ex-license holders compete against up-and-coming youth. A nice mix to watch.
Daily results: 1. Thomas Adriaanse, 2. Bart Seymortier, 3. Michael Bruyninckx, 4. Niels Baetens, 5. Martijn Roos.
Veterans A
In both series, Stephan Schrik (Tilburg) showed that the veterans can also perform.
The man from Tilburg won both series with great dominance.
Erik Mercie (Estinnes) in second place, partly due to a huge recovery in series 1. After a crash at the start, this Mercie rode very strongly with his two-stroke and spectacular riding style. In third place was Erik van de Wekken (Zierikzee), who was back on the machine for the first time this year. Bart Schildermans (Opoeteren) and traveling companion/comrade Jos Kesters (Opglabbeek) completed the top five.
Day result A: 1. Stephan Schrik, 2. Erik Mercie, 3. Erik van de Wekken, 4. Bart Schildermans, 5. Jos Kesters.
Veterans b
Here the victory went to Marc Standaert from Lembeke, with a first and second place in the series. Also in class B “new” names behind the starting gate. After more than 20 years, his first club cross at the RES, Francky van Eecke (Zedelgem) was present again, to wind down his career here together with his competition from the 80s. With a second place in the final rankings, he still manages to find his footing. In third place is the man from Hoofdplaat Ron Doppegieter. Jos Machiels (Diepenbeek), also involved in a crash at the start in series 1, was included fourth in the final results. To spontaneous loud applause, it was Rinus Dekker (Zandstraat) who received the fifth cup.
Day results: 1. Marc Standaert, 2. Francky van Eecke, 3. Ron Doppegieter, 4. Jos Machiels, 5. Rinus Dekker.
Licensees
A nicely filled class with no fewer than 25 participants. Here are a number of ONK toppers at the start, which on paper would make it a great race. And what could have been done on paper became reality. What a series!
The first series was the man from Terneuzen Boy Stockman who took the holeshot. During the first four rounds, the top players thundered around the RES circuit with fantastic duels. After 10 minutes the cards were shuffled a bit. Nico Boeren (Bergschenhoek) led and controlled. Donny Bastemeijer (Heinenoord) had to use a little gas to keep the material intact. Kristof Salaets (Heist op den Berg) was clearly not satisfied with the machine set-up with his third place in series 1 and made quite a few changes for series two. Eric Leytens (Waspik) on fourth in series 1, bit into the Axel sand and lost places and time here. Jens Poppe (Beveren-Waas0) completed the top five in this first series.
A wonderful series that the audience enjoyed and talked about later at the ceremony.
The second series: Now Salaets had the right cadence and he rode in a neat, tight series in a controlled manner. He was not given the victory, because the competition came close a number of times. Leytens, Bastemeijer and Boeren did not lose sight of each other throughout the series and increased the pressure on Saleats, but he in turn did not allow himself to be pushed and did not back down. Leytens now stayed on the machine and a decent second place was his share.
In the last lap it was Nico Boeren, who pointed Bastemeijer back to fourth place in heat 2. Casper Ovaa (East Souburg) is riding better and better due to his much training. Place five in series two as a result. Once again a fantastic series, test work for the top players, great competitions for the public.
Daily results: 1. Kristof Salaets, 2. Nico Boeren, 3. Eric Leytens, 4. Donny Bastemeijer, 5. Casper Ovaa.
