Benelux GP in Lierop confirmed
The Lierop Grand Prix will be back on the motocross calendar of the international motorcycle association FIM next season after a year's absence. After more than a decade of Grand Prix Motocross at the Herselse bosn circuit in Lierop, the past year was very quiet on the site at Kerkenhuis.
Fortunately, this will change again for 2012. Although the Grand Prix of Lierop, officially called “GP of Benelux”, had been on the Youthstream 2012 calendar for some time, it was uncertain for a long time whether the race would actually go ahead. Some hurdles had to be removed between organizer MAC Lierop on the one hand and promoter Youthstream on the other.
The contracts have now been signed so that MAC Lierop and the entire motocross-loving Netherlands can focus on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 September.
Now that Lierop has been confirmed, there remain two free dates on the MX1/MX2 GP calendar: the weekend of June 16 and 17 and the weekend of September 8 and 9. Will that first weekend still be filled with a Belgian GP? Wait and see.
