'Save the Motocross' at the car and motorcycle show!
There is renewed attention for the regularized courses for noise sports, both from the government, the associations, the industry and the motocross riders themselves. This shows the need to keep the topic current. The entry of the Motor Cycle Council into the Working Group for Practice Cycles and the unanimous appointment of Eric Geboers as point of contact for and with the government are already steps in the right direction. That is why “Save the Motorcross”, under the impulse of Eric Geboers and Stefan Everts, decided to be present with a stand at the annual car and motorcycle show at the Heysel in Brussels from 10 to 23 January. Stand 1.06 is being built in hall 1 with limited resources.
A brief overview
In 2002, the Flemish government - after a needs study - came to the conclusion that there was a need for 12-15 regularized training circuits for motocross in Flanders. Now, almost 10 years later, it appears that only one course has been closed and not one new one has been opened. There are still 1 permanent circuits left: Genk, Olmen, Lommel and Lille (where there is an extinction scenario). The conclusion of the Flemish government on October 4, 5: We must continue working...
In 2006, a new player entered the arena: Save the Motocross. The origin of this action group is the closure of the site “De Kiezelgraven” in Neeroeteren, where our greatest motocross rider ever S72, Stefun, The Legend Stefan Everts learned the tricks of the trade, just like so many others. The local residents united, not AGAINST the terrain but PRO the cross course! The highlight was the demonstration in Brussels on November 13, 2009, after which there was a bit of a standstill, but since Kester 2011 there has been new life in the action group and he is now also a discussion partner in the Working Group.
The 2012 Car and Motor Show
“Save Motorcross” will have a 75m2 stand in Palace 1. It will display various motorcycles, but also an overview of what motocross represented and still represents in Belgium. 15 world champions with a total of 56 world titles, which sport does better? But also: an overview of all the accommodation that has been lost in 20 years. You can compare it with football: suppose there are now 2 stadiums in which the entire match day of the first division has to be played every weekend, would the Do supporters also understand this?
Oxygen for motocross through oxygen for nature.
The stand will kick off the “Save the Motocross Forest”. You can register for 1 or more trees. This campaign runs for 9 months and a forest will be planted with the total amount raised. The results will be presented to Minister of the Environment Joke Schauvlieghe at the MXoN in Zolder. All information and registration takes place at the stand. There will be a list of all the names of those who buy a tree and therefore support the action and motocross on the forum www.time4mx.be. The ultimate goal is that 1 tree is planted annually per permit with a motocross association. Be sure to visit this one! The car and motorcycle show runs from January 12 to 22.
