Cape of 100 'Save the motocross trees' approaching
Until Sunday, “Save Motocross” will have a stand in Palace 1 of the Motor Show in Brussels Expo. For €10 you can buy a tree there that will be planted next to a Belgian training circuit at the end of this year.
"In this way, as motocross riders, we want to do our bit for the environment” says spokesman Guy Dick. “People often have the idea that motocross riders are heavy polluters. We want to put an end to that with this tree planting campaign” says Dick. “The list of names of people, associations and companies that have signed up for our tree planting campaign will be handed over to Flemish politicians during the Motocross of Nations that will take place in Lommel at the end of September."
Anyone who thinks that they will get a tree to take home when they register is wrong. “At the end of this year we will plant those trees near the existing circuits. People can choose where their tree is planted” says Dick. “In advance, we had the objective of selling 100 trees at this 10-day car show. But it already looks like we will more than reach that milestone” Dick continues. “Unfortunately, there are also people from the motocross environment who ignore our position. And then we complain that there are fewer and fewer rounds... Because ultimately that's what we do. Since the early 80s, the number of training runs in Belgium has shrunk spectacularly. In Flanders there have been new training courses since 2002, but 10 years later nothing concrete has been achieved. In Wallonia, under the impetus of Minister Antoine, a completely different approach is being taken and the circuits of Rognée and Mont-Saint-Guibert are being further developed."
You can find “Save the Motocross” until Sunday evening at stand 1.06 in Palace 1 of Brussels Expo. That is near the escalators that lead to the central corridor of Brussels Expo. Those who prefer to support 'Save Motocross' with something more tangible can also get a cap, a T-shirt or stickers.
