Stijn Verstrepen is working on his way back.
Ordered before Stijn Verstrepen spent his first season with the BMB Inters MX1 already at the end of August. Verstrepen crashed during the 5th round of the Lotto Trophy Orp-le-Grand and injured his shoulder.
"My shoulder came out of socket during a fall and then back in again” says Verstrepen. “As a result, the ligaments, capsule and tendon of my right shoulder also tore.” Two operations by Dr., well known in motocross circles. Toon Claes were the result of Verstrepen's injuries. Earlier in the season, Verstrepen had already undergone surgery with Dr. Claes because he was having trouble with his forearms.
Yet the rider from Onze-Lieve-Vrouw Waver does not consider 2011 as a lost year. 'Thanks to the good guidance of Marvin Van Daele and the training under the guidance of Yves Demeulemeester, I was able to come back well in the middle of the season and even win a few competitions in VLM and VMCF.” Verstrepen was seen working a lot in the UMC unions in 2011, perhaps too much. He himself is already learning lessons from the past season. “I usually trained twice a week with the bike and at the VMCF competitions I also rode the free training sessions on Saturday afternoon. And that was a bit too much in the long run."
The Honda rider will therefore change course in 2012. “Next year I will concentrate exclusively on the big competitions. I'm going to try to combine ONK and BK. I also supplement my program with competitions at the ADAC MX Masters. I also hope to make my GP debut in April during the first round of the MX3 World Championship in Valkenswaard. "
Fortunately, the injuries are now behind him and so the 20-year-old motocross rider is working hard again.
"For the past two weeks I have been able to do physical training again, so I always go on a mountain bike tour on Sunday mornings. I expect to be back on the bike in mid-January. That gives me 6 weeks to be ready for the first competition of the ONK Motocross. I will have to skip the BMB opening cross in Lommel."
Stijn also insisted on thanking a number of people. “IFirst of all, my trainers Marvin Van Daele and Yves Demeulemeester. With a special mention for Marvin who rode a strong season with a participation in the MXoN as the icing on the cake. Also my mechanics Patrick and Jelle. Engine builder Jean-Pierre and suspension specialist Willy Verstrepen. Last but not least, of course, also my sponsor of the past year: LS Motors Honda, Putboringen Verheyden, Schrijnwerkerij Devries, Luc Verreyd and Insurance Sonja Luyten!"
