Husqvarna introduces ABS on enduro motorcycles
Twenty-three years after parent company BMW was the first manufacturer in the world to equip a motorcycle with ABS, Husqvarna is launching the first enduro motorcycle with ABS. The first Husky equipped with ABS is a TE 449, the flagship of the Husqvarna enduro line.
The TE 449 is equipped with a two-way ABS system. This means that both the front and rear wheels are equipped with the anti-lock braking system. However, because controlled wheelspin is often used in off-road driving, in practice no ABS is applied to the rear wheel.
In the intro photo you can see how the front wheel of the TE 449 is equipped with a sensor and a sensor wheel. It is that small wheel that gives the sensor its impulses. If the front wheel threatens to lock (e.g. during a descent), the ABS system briefly removes braking force. The rider feels the system intervene via the front brake lever.
Husqvarna claims that competition riders in particular will benefit from the ABS system, which weighs only 1,5 kg extra. Thanks to the ABS system, the rider is more confident about the efficiency of his braking and can fully focus on the route. It is not yet known how much the ABS system on the TE 449 will cost.
