High tech allowed in Monster Energy Cup.
Live Nation, the organizers behind the Monster Energy Cup also opted for unique technical regulations for the first edition of this unique competition. In consultation with the WADA a liberal technical regulation was chosen. Apart from the fuel and noise standards, the teams are given room to experiment on a technical level. This means that the teams have a wide choice of power sources: two-stroke, four-stroke, twins, etc.
But the regulations also have room for electronic aids that are normally not allowed in the system AMA Supercross-championship. In practice, this means that things like traction control, GPS, radio communications, data recording for this unique competition.
In the past AMA Supercross season it came San Manuel Yamahateam of discredited during the match in Phoenix. On TV images of SpeedTV it could be seen how on the Yamaha YZ450F of James Stewart a speed sensor was attached to the rear brake. In the post-race interview with Speed TV's Erin Bates Stewart categorically denied afterwards. Despite the audiovisual evidence, AMA sanctions were not forthcoming, but during the following weeks the electronic aid disappeared from Stewart's motorcycle. MXMag.be is already curious how many teams in Las Vegas will use traction control.
