The impressive comeback of Freddy Fleerackers!
Making your comeback almost twenty years after you said goodbye to competitive sport and immediately winning the championship in which you participate, you just have to do it. After he hung up his motocross helmet at the end of 1992 to devote himself to the sporting career of his son Kris, it took until this spring before Freddy Fleerackers made his appearance on the motocross circuits again.
Roza, Freddy's wife, explains: “Freddy was called no fewer than 9 times last winter by baking artist Tom Keersmakers.” Keersmakers wanted to form a sidecar duo with Fleerackers. “Eight times Freddy stopped the boat, but the ninth time he agreed,” says Roza. And that meant that the 59-year-old Fleerackers would put on the motocross helmet again.
Freddy and Tom took a permit with the Sidecars B of the VMCF. “Right from the start, Freddy was determined to win the Sidecar B championship,” Roza adds.
Last weekend the Fleerackers-Keersmakers duo received certainty about their title in Manage. When Freddy Fleerackers returned home to Sint-Katelijne-Waver, a beautifully decorated facade awaited him.
