Motocross International: Pourcel is not looking forward to the GPs.
The return of Christophe Pourcel in the World Championship MX1 was not exactly grandiose. And yet the GP of Germany probably linger for a long time Pourcel fans. Already sent on Saturday afternoon Scream Scream his cat for the pre-race show mx-life.tv. It had already become apparent that Pourcel was still fast. In his 7e of 10 laps during the free practice on Saturday morning, Pourcel set the fastest time. Only LS Honda Racing's Shaun Simpson was able to improve that time a little later.
At the end of the afternoon the new one knew CLS Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki-rider is as 6e to qualify. Not earth-shattering, but certainly not bad in this company either. The real controversy was yet to come.
On Sunday, Pourcel appeared to be unable to complete a GP round. In the first moto he came in after 5 laps because he was not wearing a cross harness. On a stone-strewn circuit like the basin in Teutschenthal a cross harness is certainly not an unnecessary luxury. Pourcel, however, didn't seem to know that. Strange, especially if you drove a qualifying race of over 25 minutes on the same circuit the day before. Moreover, Pourcel should know Teutschenthal from the MX2 GPs he competed in 2005, 2006 en 2007 drove. Viewed objectively, we can consider Pourcel's failure in the first heat as a lack of professionalism.
In the second moto Pourcel would first lap around 7/8 for a number of lapse hang in place. When he had to give up a place a little later, the CLS pilot came back into the pit. Pourcel would then do a few more laps on the 31e place, in the way of the leaders. Pourcel's Verkaring afterwards it was said that he did not have the right set-up for the European circuits. We quite believe that Pourcel's Pro Circuit Kawasaki KX450F isn't quite ready yet, but if that bike was good for nothing, how could he finish sixth the day earlier despite a bad set-up? In addition, the team had already tested extensively last spring Ben Townley, and there should therefore already be a basic adjustment. You could also argue that an ex-world champion like Pourcel should be able to circumvent the lack of set-up with his riding. Afterwards, Pourcel criticized through CLS team manager Jean-Jacques Luisetti that the Teutschenthal circuit had been far too hard, even on the edge of what was permissible. Also strange because other riders said that Teutschenthal had been a lot softer than ever before last weekend. From Luisetti's conversation with our French colleagues from Moto Verte it also turned out that Pourcel was not yet completely sure that he would be at the start for the Latvian GP this weekend in Kegums.
It is obvious that Christophe Pourcel does not actually want to ride in the MX1 World Championship. The Frenchman was never really a jolly boy, but his body language last weekend betrayed a complete lack of interest. He probably would have preferred to be in the Peugeot factory Sochaux constantly Partners assembled. Only, it doesn't pay very well. The real challenge for Pourcel lies in the United States. And perhaps most of all AMA Supercross-championship. Of his two AMA Supercross Lites titles we have already remembered that Pourcel is one of the few Europeans, if not the only one, who could beat the Americans in their own Supercross championship. But then Pourcel must first find a decent team and to succeed in that he has to add water to the financial wine.
