EWC Romania: favorites crack but do not give way
Three laps of 81 km on both Saturday and Sunday were on the menu for the 6e round of the EWC in Romania. With the end of the championship gradually in sight, the pressure on the favorites also increased. Yet for some of them the world title came a lot closer.
Was in E1 Matti Seistola the fastest on Saturday. The Finnish Husqvarna rider is apparently the only one who can match his compatriot and teammate Juha Salminen can be the boss every now and then. The Finns were only slightly affected by the sweltering Romanian heat Eero Remes was on a roll. The KTM rider threatened to steal second place from Salminen for a long time, but ultimately had to recognize his superior in the multiple world champion.
On Sunday, crashes would keep Seistola off the podium. Teammate Salminen managed to take full advantage of Seistola's setbacks and therefore won the day's classification. Moreover, due to Seistola's bad luck, he managed to get a little further ahead. Eero Remes finished second Rodrigue Thain.
Pierre-Alexandre Renet was unbeatable in the E2 in Buzau. The Husaberg rider took sporting revenge after his double DNF during the Greek round. Renet won on Saturday Cristobal Guerrero en Antoine Meo. After an exciting duel, it was ultimately the Spaniard who finished second. The Norman also indicated that the problem at Husaberg had been identified and remedied. Jeff Goblet beat Northern neighbor Vogels in the battle for 8e place.
Renet dueled with Antoine Meo for a whole day on Sunday, but in the end the Normandy would take the win again. With a second place, Meo once again proves his regularity and that is why you win championships. The Husqvarna rider is taking a serious step towards the world title after this weekend. Guerrero, who in the absence of Johnny Aubert acted as KTM leader, finished 3rde. Hans Vogels won on Sunday The Battle of the Low Lands. The Husaberg rider finished the day in 7th placee and thus did two places better than Jean-Francois Goblet.
Gas Gas rider Christophe Nambotin laid on Saturday Mika Ahola the fire on the shins. The Frenchman was untouchable in the E3 class. Spectacle man Kurt caselli would like 2e finish but had to give in 14 seconds to Nambotin. During the Enduro Tests, World Championship leader Ahola even found himself lagging behind by about 20 seconds each time. The Finn would therefore even miss the podium. Thus the last podium place went to Sebastien Guillaume.
Mika Ahola recovered on Sunday but could not prevent Christophe Nambotin from taking a fourth consecutive day's victory. This means that the Gas Gas rider is slightly catching up with the World Cup leader, but it remains to be seen whether that will be enough to threaten the Finn. Nambotin lost many valuable points in Turkey by dropping out on both days.
