Cairoli and Herlings on pole position in Lommel
The qualifying series of the GP of Limburg became a KTM party today. In the MX2 class the victory went to the injured Jeffrey Herlings. Herlings took the best start and rode like crazy over the tough circuit in the initial phase. He immediately took a lead over Roczen and continued to control the match. Behind the KTM duo, Max Anstie rode to third place. Paulin finished fourth ahead of van Horebeek and a surprising Petrov.
There was an immediate commotion in the MX1 class after a heavy fall by Steve Ramon. Ramon lost control in a duel with Simspon and Philipaerts and fell at full speed. He fell head first into the sand and received a hard blow. He lay motionless and for a moment the worst was feared. When it turned out that it was serious, the match was flagged off until Ramon was stabilized. He was taken to Genk hospital and at that moment had no feeling in his arms and legs. A little later the news came that he had feeling in his upper body and finally that evening the redeeming news came that he also had feeling in his legs again. Only on his left side is the feeling not yet 100%, but this could be due to some nerve pathways that have been affected. According to the doctors, this would be fine again. The spine was not damaged and Steve must remain in the emergency room for observation this night.
At the restart of the race, Steven Frossard took off like a bullet, he led for laps but had to let Cairoli go ahead a few corners before the end. Cairoli therefore won the qualification ahead of Frossard and Bobryshev, who had come back strongly after a fall in the initial phase. Clement Desalle, after also falling, finished fourth and Ken de Dycker fifth. De Dycker had risen to third place after a mediocre start, but fell back somewhat in the final phase. Same scenario for Marc de Reuver, who rode a strong race but ultimately fell back and finished seventh.
Kevin Strijbos finished tenth and wildcard driver Marvin van Daele finished 14th.
