EWC 2011: tough Greek GP
Greece has always been the cradle of tragedy and this Greek round of the EWC was no different. Especially in E2, the number of dropouts this weekend was almost impossible to keep up with. Jean-François Goblet, however, persevered, finishing fifth twice and doing well in the standings.
E1: Double for Salminen
Rodrigue Thain could surprise on the opening day. The Frenchman had to keep his fingers crossed Juha Salminen, but was nevertheless able to represent his compatriots Matti Seistola en Eero Remes nesting in second place. Cedric Melotte felt unwell, just like in Sicily, and had to give up. So it was already on Saturday Game Over official Gas Gas-driver. On Sunday the Finns recovered and Salminen won ahead of Seistola and Remes. Thain was the first non-Finn in fourth place.
E2: Meo is doing an excellent job
Former MX3 world champion Pierre-Alexandre Renet led the rankings in the King's class early on Saturday. Followed behind him Johnny Aubert. Of the top ones Ivan Cervantes the first to leave when his Gas Gas gives up the ghost. Also Hans Vogels will not run on Saturday. In the final phase crashes Aubert then Renet gets problems with an engine that is at the end of its rope. The Husaberg factory rider will also not reach the finish line. Antoine Meo can take full advantage of the setbacks of its competitors. The Husqvarna rider once again takes the full prize. Jean-François Goblet comes fifth. “A hard-fought 5e place, the enormous heat made it extra difficult” let the Liège resident know at home.
Meo also calls the shots on Sundays. Cervantes now keeps his EC 250 intact and finishes third behind his compatriot Cristobal Guerrero. Goblet confirms fifth place in the daily rankings again Aigar Leok. Hans Vogels is now finishing and is eighth. Renet does not reach the finish again and has to give up a lot of points.
E3: Nambotin flames!
In the E3 move Christophe Nambotin put things in order on Saturday by taking the day's victory. The Frenchman is really on fire in Greece. So that at the finish he has 1min13 left over the second in E3: Joakim Ljunggren. Surprisingly enough it is Mika Ahola unable to follow the Gas Gas rider and even has to tolerate Ljunggren in front of him. Ahola is just barely possible Kurt caselli from the last stage steps. After a day of breaking in, Caselli can even take a seat on the second highest podium on Sunday. Only Nambotin does better than the American. This time the Frenchman has 1min11 left. Ahola finishes third ahead of Ljunggren and again has to lose points to Nambotin. Yet Ahola still leads with a large lead.
