De Erzbergrodeo is in its seventeenth edition this weekend. Sixteen years ago, a group of Austrian off-road enthusiasts started an enduro race in an ore mine in the province Styria. Did they already know that their competition would become one of the toughest off-road competitions in the world? To the first winner, Karl-Heinz Holz After all, there are mainly very big names from the enduro world on the list of achievements of the Erzbergrodeo.
Over the years the competition also grew into one four-day event. The qualifying matches will be held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The actual one Red Bull Hare Scramble, the highlight of the Erzbergrodeo takes place on Sunday afternoon.
This year too, everyone's eyes are gone Tadeusz Blazusiak focused. The Polish KTM factory rider has won the last four editions of the Red Bull Hare Scramble. Can he storm the Erzberg as winner for the fifth time on Sunday? In any case, he can face opposition from Doug Lampkin to expect. The former world trial champion has already shown that he is also an expert in Extreme Enduros. The Jitsie gas gasdriver is already one of the outsiders for the victory. Another ex-world champion Thierry Van Den Bosch. The Supermoto virtuoso is ready for his first Erzbergrodeo. Wonder what that cares about VDB drifting through the long stone-strewn bends of the quarry!
Riders from the Belgian side are also taking action. The most famous names among them: Michael Vukcevic, Pascal Berlingieri and OMS rider Olivier Vanmarcke. Vukcevic and Berlingieri in particular are not up to their task when it comes to Extreme Enduro. Vanmarcke became Belgian Enduro champion with the Randonneurs last year.
